Project Description

Östberg keeps IKEA’s biggest store in Finland supplied with fresh air

Immediately outside Kuopio, Matkus is the site of IKEA’s biggest initiative in Finland to date. The entire shopping centre counts on welcoming around five million visitors a year, many of whom are assumed to visit IKEA – the biggest single draw in the shopping complex.
Calculated on floor space to be supplied with ventilation, this is one of Östberg’s biggest ever projects. Even though the sheer size presented a major challenge, it was not an unusual situation for Östberg, which has extensive experience in the manufacture of large-scale ventilation solutions based on modular units.

Easy service essential

Although the objective is for the unit to provide error-free operation, service and maintenance procedures still have to be carried out from time to time. The fact that modular units from Östberg are highly service-friendly plays an important role, given that shut-downs must be kept as short as possible, taking into account the huge numbers of people who may be in the store.

Specially adapted modular unit solution

Ventilation installations of this size, with requirements of this kind, often demand specially customised solutions. In this case, the solution took the form of 12 modular units, manufactured with the very latest technology in the fields of eco-friendliness and energy efficiency. The total air flow is 75 m3/s.
